The Honda NSX is a hybrid performance car that was first built and engineered in Japan. Eleven years later, the second generation NSX returns to Japan as an American import. Work on the second generation NSX was a joint effort of the manufacturing teams in the USA and Japan. Engineers in Japan had the task of creating and engineering the sporty hybrid drive train while the USA team handled the overall design, production of the car, and the packaging for the markets to offer the NSX for sale. Honda has stated 6000 as the number of the new NSX in production.
The first generation of the NSX went into production between 1990 and 2005. The USA-built NSX will be branded as the Acura for the USA, China, and the Middle East markets while the NSX applies for the European and Japanese markets.
The NSX has three motors that power a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 engine producing 573 horsepower. The NSX can reach a speed of 60 mph in a little over three seconds. The NSX price has come under criticism for being pricey, but Honda claims it offers better quality for the money than the competition which includes the Ferrari 458 and the Porsche 911 Turbo.
Honda was the first Japanese car manufacturer to build vehicles in the United States at Honda’s assembly plant in Marysville, Ohio which manufactures the Accord. The assembly plant in Marysville will handle the task of building and shipping the second generation NSX for all the markets for the hybrid. The assembly plant is churning out five cars per day, but Clement Klaus, the head engineer of the NSX, hopes to push the number to eight. The NSX is set to be marketed and sold in over 50 countries around the world.
